Pongal
Ingredients

Rice 2 cups
Moong Dal 1/2 cup
Ghee 1tbl spoon
Turmeric Powder 1/2 t/s
Pepper 1/2 t/s
Coconut grated 1/2 cup
Cardamom Powder 1/2 t/s
cumin seeds 1/2 t/s
Salt to taste

Method :

Fry moongdal with 1/2 spoon ghee,
Mix rice and moongdal (fried) in a container .
Add 4 1/2 cup of water,
Add turmeric powder and ghee.
Keep this mixture in the cooker to boil ,
Heat ghee and fry cumin seeds cashew nuts and raisins,
then add pepper powder, coconut , cardamom powder and salt.
Mix it well, add this mixture to the cooked rice & dal , and eat .
For sweet pongal you should put sugar 1 1/2 cup with rice and dal.


This is the south Indian dish which is prepared in the festival of Pongal or Sankranthi.
